VOLUNTEERING DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT

·         I created, administered, maintained and continually reviewed & developed for over 18 years an extensive Volunteer Recruitment & Training Programme, involving over 500 volunteers during those 18 years (with over 170 active volunteers at our height), having this quality recognised by being East Midlands Regional ‘Make A Difference’ Volunteering Award Winners in 1995, presented by the UK Home Secretary; and being lead officer for the successful national ‘Investing in Volunteers’ accreditation.

·         Through the development of the Volunteer and external Training Programmes, I was instrumental in initiating collaborations with other workers, especially from varied organisations, including senior clinicians, health workers, and local authority & community workers, etc.

·      As a ‘Volunteering Development Officer’ at ‘Leicester Volunteer Bureau’, I was involved in recruiting, interviewing, placing, and supporting volunteers; identifying volunteering opportunities; encouraging volunteer involvement through talks and presentations; and advising and assisting groups and organisations to involve volunteers, including promoting and advising on legal requirements and good volunteering practice.

·      Been instrumental in developing projects organisationally, especially through development of appropriate policies, procedures and ways of working; being clear about purpose; paying attention to detail; making sure all legal requirements were followed; and promoting Good Practice.

·         Development and provision of training to enable volunteers to be effective ‘Reception’ workers, as well as ‘Training the Trainer’ sessions to enable others to assist with or deliver accurate/consistent training themselves.

·      As 'Youth Volunteer Development Manager/Project Co-ordinator' with the vinvolved team (Leicestershire & Rutland) for over two years, building links with a wide range of groups, organisations, forums, networks and strategy groups, particularly to increase understanding of good practice in youth volunteering; providing information, training & advice on all matters relating to volunteering, particularly legal and safeguarding, etc; and dealing with their concerns to overcome 'barriers' that that they may perceive exist, etc.

·      Being responsible for developing, leading on and facilitating from scratch a new 'Youth Volunteering Forum' and information network currently including over 100 representatives from a wide range of groups & organisations.

·      Being responsible for organising, administrating, devising, leading on and presenting four well-attended and well-evaluated forum meetings to support youth volunteering, focusing upon ‘Safeguarding’, ‘Developing Volunteering Opportunities’ and ‘Reducing Barriers in Youth Volunteering’.

·      Attending many Forums, Networks and Partnerships has also been significant, especially raising awareness about our work and representing issues of concern for younger volunteers and to develop partnership working between different bodies within the various communities in Leicestershire & Rutland.

·      Since 2001, a volunteer  Parish Councillor and now Vice-Chair, member of the ‘Recreation Committee’ & Chair of the ‘Human Resources Committee’, being significantly involved in leading on responses to health & safety, recruitment, employment and personnel issues.
