SOME EMPLOYMENT / WORK EXPERIENCE:- 'Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL)' - 'Youth Volunteer Development Manager/Project Co-ordinator' with 'vinvolved team' (Leicestershire & Rutland), part of v, the national youth volunteering programme, working to raise awareness about youth volunteering; encouraging young people aged 16-25 to get positively involved in their community; and working together with groups & organisations to develop the quality and quantity of youth volunteering opportunities and foster youth-led action. Managed by 'Voluntary Action South Leicestershire' and originally supported by the 'LeicesterShire Volunteer Centres Network' and also 'Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport'. (F/T, 2nd June 2008 - Present). - 'In2Sports Limited' - Sports Instructor: Duties included devising, planning and delivering multi-sports-related sessions for a range of children & young people, including adults who work with young people, in a varity of settings, particularly schools (Breakfast clubs, Lunchtime clubs, After School clubs & covering and delivering PE curriculum); and also 'Fundamentals' sessions with early-years (2-5 yrs), working with around 300 children a week (2-11 yrs), primarily in two Primary Schools. (F/T, 26th March 2008 - 23rd May 2008). - Leicestershire AIDS Support Services (LASS) - 'Training Development Officer'/'Training & Development Manager': Responsibility in recruitment and training of Volunteers (and many employees), helping to secure 'Investing in Volunteers' accreditation for the agency; Health & Safety at Work; Training within LASS and throughout Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland for thousands of people from a wide range of groups, organisations, companies, local authorities, prisons, and educational establishments regarding HIV/AIDS, Sexual Health, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis and related areas (F/T, 6th November 1989 - 22nd February 2008, left due to redundancy). - Leicester Volunteer Bureau (Voluntary Action Leicester) - 'Development Officer (Volunteering)': Interviewing, placing and supporting Volunteers; identifying opportunities for volunteering and promoting good practice (F/T, June-Sept 1989). - London Central YMCA - 'Youth Worker/Youth Tutor' : Part-time Youth Worker (20 hrs a week) to develop and maintain the YMCA Junior Programme, and to facilitate the regular educational and social activities, and involvement as Youth Drama Tutor (Inner London Education Authority, P/T, July 1986-Sept 1987). - Hornsey YMCA - 'Youth & Community Worker': Pre-school gym, movement and drama-related sessions; gymnastics and sport-related sessions, particularly for 4-11 year olds at the YMCA and within local schools; regular working in the centre's creche; and two-week Playscheme for 5-14 year olds at a local school (P/T, Sept 1986-May 1987). - London Central YMCA - Circuit Training & Weight Training Instructor: Numerous regular Circuit Training classes and Weight Training programmes, including Introduction to Weight Training 8-week programmes for unemployed people; as well as assisting the 'Teaching The Teachers' Programme which included sessions for the British Olympic Sailing Squad and a major company (P/T, June 1986-Sept 1989). - Croydon YMCA - Circuit Training & Pre-School Gym Instructor: Organising and running fun and developmental movement, exercise and gym sessions for pre-school children; and planning and running Circuit Training classes for adults (P/T, 1987). - Palace Theatre, Redditch - 'Professional Actor/teacher': A season with the Young Peoples' Theatre Company in various productions, Youth Drama Workshops, etc. (F/T, Sept 1983-Jan 1984) - with various acting, drama and theatre work following this on and off. - Society of Civil & Public Servants - 'Clerical Officer': Responsiiblity for a range of administration and clerical work; assisting with conference organisation; supporting and liaising with Section Committee members and Negotiation Officers; producing directories, etc. (F/T, April 1979-Sept 1980). - Royal Court Theatre, London - 'Theatre Usher' (P/T, 1980-1982). - Department of Employment (Benefits Office, London) - 'Clerical Officer': Range of clerical work, dealing with the public, making benefits payments, taking enquiries, etc. (F/T, Oct 1978-April 1979). SOME ATHLETICS AND SPORT EMPLOYMENT AND WORK:- Harborough District Council - Youth Games 2006 & 2007, Year 5/6 (9-11 year olds) Athletics Team: Coach/Team Manager running a number of sessions to select and train the Year 5/6 Athletics Team to represent the District of Harborough at the Leicester-Shire & Rutland Youth Games 2006 & 2007. - Redlands Primary School, Sileby: Running after-school athletics-related sessions for Year 3/4 (7-9 year olds) and Year 5/6 (9-11 year olds). SOME OTHER WORK / EMPLOYMENT:- Freelance Training: Occasional freelance training, including HIV/AIDS & Personal Safety, for "Basford Hall College, Nottingham" (1 day, 1990); "Nottingham AIDS Information Project" (2 days, 1992); "Rotherham Borough Council" (1 day, 1992); "Coleshill School, Warwickshire" (1 day, 1991); "Busy Bees Consultancy" (4 days, 1992-95); "Arden Films" (1 day, 1993); "Nottinghamshire Council Council, Social Services" (2 days, 1998); "Nottingham City Council, Social Services" (14 days, 1998-2004); "Charnwood Community Council" (1 day, 1997); "Highfields & St Matthews Community Employment Project" (half day, 1999); "Care & Repair (Leicester) Ltd" (half day, 1999). - Regency Fairs - Car Boot Sale: Seasonal part-time employment at a well-established, popular, busy and large car boot sale, involved in liaison with visitors, stewarding, car parking, litter collection and general safety (Regency Fairs, 2001-Present). COLLEGE PLACEMENTS (Youth & Community Development):- 'Golden Hours Retirement Group': A weekly involvement with a Senior Citizens social Group, included devising & presenting a social education-based session focusing on the issue of 'War', featuring poems, writings & personal experiences, to stimulate discussion, recognition of experience, thinking, reflection and further understanding (Oct-Dec 1987). - 'Beachamp Community College', Oadby, Leicestershire: An 8 week full-time placement as a 'community Youth Tutor, involved in a range of work, including within a fourth year modular studies component and the involvement of Youth Club members in the recruitment of part-time Youth Workers (April-May 1988). - 'Mundella Community College', Leicester: Regular sessions with 14 year olds, constructing an educationally-based curriculum using drama, social & lifeskills-related theory, processes & methods, exploring my role as informal educator, enabling & facilitating the group, to raise, explore & think critically about issues which concern them, to help develop clearer understanding, awareness & confidence (Sept-Dec 1988). - 'Leicestershire AIDS Support Services' (LASS): Initially a 10 week full-time (and subsequently 6 weeks compiling a Research Study) placement as an additional Co-ordinator/Development Work for this developing HIV/AIDS voluntary agency , including administrating & assisting with delivery of their Volunteer Training Programme, and a lengthy and detailed action research study focusing upon Service Provision in Leicestershire for people living with HIV/AIDS, presented to 'Leicestershire Health' to highlight areas of concern, recommendations for improvement, etc (Jan - April 1989).
